No smoke without fire

Any creative pursuit makes you more observant. In fact, anything in which you get involved makes you observant. You sit up and start noticing things. So is painting (or brushes) doing to me these days. When I look at things now, I look at how the light falls, how the shadows form, how the gradient of the colors slope down and where to put that white streak to make a picture come alive. Even when I close my eyes, I can imagine the colors, the shadows on the curtain, the curve, the angle and the evasive white streak.

This is good fun – am improving I guess. But I need more ideas - what to draw and paint? Seems like geometric shapes – circles, straight lines are not my forte on the iphone at least, nevertheless, will keep trying. Landscape is interesting. Hopefully with time and practice, I’ll graduate to better paintings.

I haven't got it all figured out just yet

Blue Sky...

and some grey clouds

Mehndi anyone?

Good fences make good neighbors

A peacock dropped a feather

Bird the bird sees it

Smaller Ball

...and its reflection on the floor, in case you miss it.

Another day, another moon. Clouds stay.

Flower basket

Plums or baby-brinjals?

Some fruit

Brush strokes

K bought the software (Brushes for iphone) on Sunday (We got to know about the software through The New Yorker)....and here is what I could create.

Have to give it to the software...I like painting, but I had given up on it after years of not painting. It was like giving up on a dream -the way you do it - when you have a really long dream list of things you wish you could do - but somehow you never get around doing it. So all my colors and boards and drawing sheets were gathering dust. Hopefully, now onwards, off and on there would be something to add. Its fun, quick and the starting few have been done in the cab or while am whiling away my time. Joy of creation, imagination is unrivalled and am having fun with this software. Starting with some small steps.
